MATHIAS REUMERT (b. 1980) is a Danish multiple percussionist and marimba/vibraphone performer. A specialist of contemporary music, he received the First Prize at the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition 2007 in Amsterdam, Holland, the first percussion soloist to do so since 1979.

As soloist and with his own ensembles, he has performed throughout Europe and in many parts of the Americas, premiering works by several European and American composers. Since 2008 he is on the faculty at the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice at New England Conservatory in Boston, USA.

His recording of Poul Ruders' concerto for percussion and orchestra, 'Monodrama', is released by DACAPO Records.

Reumert is also an avid improviser, music theater performer, and composer. With the PACE Percussion Trio, he performed as the opening act at the 2002 FIFA World Cup of Soccer concert in Seoul, Korea, and has since been touring extensively performing original music. Other ensemble activities include the Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, a sax/piano/percussion trio with the Duo Disecheis from Italy, a project with Swedish electronics wiz Mattias Sköld, and frequent performances with improvisers Borderline Ensemble.

As a student, Mathias Reumert was past winner of several competitions, including the Concours International de Vibraphone 2002 in France and the Percussive Arts Society Solo Vibraphone Contest 2004. He studied with Steven Schick at the University of California, San Diego, and with Gert Mortensen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.


About the PACE Percussion Trio: 
PACE was the opening act at the 2002 FIFA World Cup of Soccer concert in Seoul and has since toured in Scandinavia, Germany, Israel, and Korea, performing original music by its members: Mathias Friis-Hansen, David Hildebrandt, and Mathias Reumert. The trio has collaborated with several artists, including electronica pioneers Dub Tractor and Opiate. The trio’s debut CD featuring saxophonist Thomas Agergaard will be released in 2009.

Som den første slagtøjssolist siden 1979 modtog han den samlede 1.-pris ved
Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition 2007 i Amsterdam, den største konkurrence for klassiske solister og ensembler i fortolkningen af ny musik. Derudover har han vundet førstepriser ved bl.a. Concours International de Vibraphone 2002 i Clermont-Ferrand (Frankrig), Percussive Arts Society International Convention 2004 i Nashville (USA), og La Jolla Symphony Soloist Competition 2004 i San Diego (USA).

Han underviser i kammermusik ved Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, som afholdes årligt på New England Conservatory i Boston, USA.

Reumert har uropført adskillige værker af anerkendte danske og udenlandske komponister ved solokoncerter i USA, Peru, Frankrig, Holland, Italien, Polen, Sverige, Norge og Danmark. Han har indspillet Poul Ruders’ slagtøjskoncert ’
Monodrama’ for DACAPO med Aarhus Symfoniorkester, og har derudover været solist med bl.a. Helsingborg Symfoniorkester og La Jolla Symphony Orchestra.

Derudover omfatter hans virke bl.a. improvisation, musikteater og electronica. Han er medlem af den prisbelønnede PACE Percussion Trio, og spiller jævnligt med bl.a. Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, Borderline Ensemble, italienske Duo Disecheis (sax/klaver/slagtøj), samt et projekt med den svenske komponist/elektronik-performer Mattias Sköld.
